Problems fall health services at Bhola community clinics into disarray

The residents of the district have been deprived from proper medical services for long as most of the local community clinics are struggling with various types of hurdles including due facilities from the state authorities.

The situation worsened when the assigned physicians there also shunned their duty.

The government has established the community clinics across the country aiming to reach medication facilities to the doorstep of people living in rural and remote areas.

It was learnt from local health office that there are 211 such sort of clinics in seven upazilas of the district. Of them, 197 have no electricity connection or solar facility and 178 have no tube-well to ensure drinkable water for the patients.

Besides, 78 clinics experience water inside from the dilapidated rooftops during rainy season while toilets of 100 are unusable lack of renovation for long.

On the other hand, Tk30,00 had been allotted for the rooftop repair works of the clinics and the authorities concerned returned back the fund because of less than the need.

When asked, Bhola Civil Surgeon Dr Farid Ahmed acknowledged the dereliction of duty and sorry state of the clinics, telling they were taking action against the alleged staff after investigation.

He has already appealed to the higher authorities seeking necessary allocation to renovate the establishments, the civil surgeon continued.
