Indian college girl pushed back

A 20-year-old girl, who had fled her home in Nadia of West Bengal around seven months ago for love, has been sent back.

Border Guard Bangladesh handed over Pompa Mondol to the members of Indian Border Security Force at Darshana border around noon on Monday.

Her parents were present at that time, Darshana Immigration Police In-Charge SI Mahbubur Rahman said. Senior officials of the BGB, the BSF and police attended the flag meeting, reports our Chuadanga correspondent.

Pompa is the daughter of Asit Mondol and Anuradha Mondol from bordering Shikarpur village in Nadia. She was honours first year student at Karimpur Panna Devi College.

Locals said after coming to Bangladesh in May, Pompa got married to Amzad Ali of Dharmadaha village under Daulatpur in Kushtia.

They met each other last year while taking bath in the area's Mathabhanga River. Shikarpur and Dharmadaha villages are situated on the two sides of the river and people of both the villages take bath there.

Meanwhile, Pompa's father filed a case with Krishnanagar court to get back his daughter. The family also contacted Kolkata-based human rights group Sanglap, which arranged the deportation of Pompa through the high commissions of the two countries.

Following this, Daulatpur police arrested Pompa on June 7 but Amzad went into hiding.

A court jailed Pompa for six months on charge of illegal entry. Since then, she had been staying at the women's safe home at Kushtia jail.
