A three day long biennale, the Dhaka Art Summit 2014 unveiled its curtains at the National Art Museum of Shilpakala Academy on February 7, 2014 with in the presence of art lovers, exhibitors, curators, collectors and critiques from the South Asia and beyond.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Cultural Affairs Minster Asaduzzaman Noor and Dr Gowher Rizvi, International Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister, graced the affair as chief guests.
Farooq Sobhan, chairman of the organising committee of DAS, articulated the motive behind organising the biennale at Dhaka while Nadia Samdani, president of the Samdani Art Foundation, warmly welcomed the distinguished local and international delegates of the art festival.
An initiative of the Samdani Art Foundation and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the second Dhaka Art Summit 2014 will present a panoramic survey of artists from South Asian countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Dhaka Art Summit 2014 will include solo projects, curated exhibitions, an ambitious public art project, a series of discussions, performances, experimental film screenings and presentations by 33 local and international galleries. Representatives from Tate Modern, The British Museum, Centre Pompidou and Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, among many others, will participate in the talks programme.
