14 held for lifting vehicles

Detective Branch (DB) of police held 14 alleged individuals involved in car lifting, snatching and cheating across the country in the last two days.

The DB police also recovered six stolen vehicles from their possession.

Deputy Commissioner at South Division of DB Krishnapado Roy said, one of the teams detained five members of a car lifting gang from Chittagong and Barisal with two microbuses.

The arrested car lifters were identified as Shameem Ahmed, Mizanur Rahman, Saiful Islam, Khalil Miah andAlamgir Hossain.

DB officials said one of the recovered microbuses had been stolen from the capital’s Paltan on December 12 and another from Demra on December 28.

He said another team of the DB arrested seven members of another gang from Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital in the capital’s Sher-e-Banglanagar and seized four CNG-run auto-rickshaws and a 110 pieces of sedative tablets and a flask.

Two of the CNG-run auto-rickshaws were recovered from Sher-e-Banglanagar and two others from Kammrangirchar, he said.

The detainees are Md Sumon, Al Amin, Abdus Salam, Mizanur Rahman, Jasim Uddin, Ameer Hossain and Shahadat Hossain.

According to DB personnel, the detainees were doping their drivers with sedatives before confiscating their vehicles.

Additionally, the managing director of a fake company and its manager, who used to cheat people in many ways and embezzle their money, were arrested at the capital’s Jatrabari.

They are Abdullah Al Helal, 38, and Azizul Huq alias Sona Miah alias Siraj, 35. They were arrested as they had allegedly been impersonating the MDs and managers of Talukder Group, SB Group, Saqura Foods and Refinery and Sheraton Group of Industries.

They had also been embezzling money from people with the false promise of getting them employment.
