Tawki murder: Hunger strike in Narayanganj

Santrash Nirmul Tawki Mancha has staged a token hunger strike at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Friday demanding capital punishment of the killers of the schoolboy.

The Tawki Mancha arranged the three-hour hunger strike from 9am marking 11 months into the killing of Tanvir Ahmed Tawki.

The activists ended the strike at 12pm by sipping drinks offered by Tawki’s mother Rawnak Jahan.

Meanwhile, a tense situation prevailed in the Shaheed Minar area as activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League took position in the area before the strike began.

However, there were no untoward incidents because of patrolling additional police and members of the Rapid Action Battalion.

Tanvir Ahmed Tawki went missing on March 6 of last year.

He was found dead on the banks of the Shitalakkhya River on March 8.

Tawki’s father filed a murder case against some unidentified individuals and later submitted a letter to the

Police super of Narayanganj mentioning the involvement of the seven, including Awami League MP Shamim Osman and his son Ayon Osman, in the murder.
