All set to award MLM company licences from next week

The government is finally going to start offering licence to the much-talked about Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) companies from next week, with offering the first-ever licence to Tiangshai.

“The Registrar of the Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) will scrutinise the eligible firms before offering the licences, beginning from next week,” an official of the commerce ministry said yesterday.

According to commerce ministry and RJSC sources, a total of 21 firms have submitted their proposals to get MLM licences.

The proposals of the scam-hit Destiny, Advance Bangla, Rich, Pinacal, Aimway, and Tiangshai have also been submitted to the RJSC.

“Tiangshai is the first MLM company, which is going to get the opening licence from RJSC in the next week,’’ said an official.

Although the much-talk about MLM company Destiny-2000 had submitted its proposal on January 8 to RJSC, it might be difficult for the controversial company to get the desired license on legal ground, said an official of RJSC.

However, as per newly enacted MLM law, the RJSC will have to inform Destiny about its decision within thirty days.

“Legal complexities won’t be any hindrances for the Destiny to get licence from RJSC,” secretary of Destiny Mizanur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

As contacted, Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed yesterday said the government has no option but to give licences to the companies as per the enacted MLM law.
