Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday highly praised the role of Bangladesh Television (BTV) in flourishing Bangali culture and heritage across the world asking the national television channel to cope up with technology and public demand.
She said: “BTV must produce life-oriented programmes to attract audience. It should not be limited in supplying information. The national television must work as an institution which will guide taste and behaviour of the people.”
The prime minister made the statement while inaugurating weeklong Golden Jubilee programmes of Bangladesh Television at a function at its Rampura Bhaban premises yesterday.
Sheikh Hasina said the government wants to make BTV as a real national institution. So BTV must keep it abreast with new technologies and public demand while producing programmes.
As the prime national broadcaster, BTV’s responsibility was quite different from private channels, she said. “Private channels give priority to their business while BTV have to give importance to the demand of the people,” she added.
She asked the concerned officials to create scope for talented, creative and competent persons in producing BTV’s programmes to retrieve the past glory.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and PM’s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury attended the function as special guests while Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed was in the chair.
Noted singer Ferdousi Rahman, also the first singer of the television, and first Director General of BTV Jamil Chowdhury attended the function as guests of honour.
