The three-day long Kathak Dance Festival 2014 will be held at 6:30pm to 8:30pm each night from tonight until December 26 at the Chhayanat Sanskriti Bhaban. Organised by the Kathak Dance Community, this is the third time the troupe is holding the festival.
The delightful Kathak dance event will feature the powerful, stamping footwork matched to the complex rhythms of on-stage musicians that characterise the dance form. A multitude of facial expressions and finely honed gestures allow the practitioner to incarnate multiple personalities or creatures in the time-honoured tales of the great epics like the Mahabharata.
Along with the dance presentation a seminar will be held and an honorary award titled Zeenat Zahan will be given to a promising dancer. The show has been choreographed by Saju Ahmed, Tabassum Ahmed and Dipa Sarkar.
The Kathak Dance Community is dedicated to the promotion, preservation and teaching of Kathak dance. It was established in 1990. The organisation performs in Bangladesh and in many international programmes. It is working to build an awareness of Kathak and to train the future generation of dancers in the country.
