President, PM mourn Maqsudul Alam's death

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their deep shock at the death of noted scientist Professor Dr Maqsudul Alam, inventor of the genome sequence of jute. They expressed their condolences in separate messages issued on Sunday, reports BSS. President Hamid in his message recalled Maqsudul's contribution in the field of agriculture science saying his death is an irreparable loss to the nation. Abdul Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family members. Dr Maqsudul Alam, professor of the University of Hawaii, died at Queens Medical Centre in Hawaii on Saturday.
