Ferry services in the Simulia-Kawrakandi route of the Padma River has resumed after seven hours of disruption owing to dense fog on Sunday.
Assistant Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Simulia Ghat Shekhar Chandra Roy said “The disruption happened around 1am and the normalcy returned there around 8:15am.”
Four ferries had to anchor in the midst of the Padma River as marking lights and beacons could not be seen. Hundreds of passengers had to pass the night in the middle of the river, he added.
There were about 400 vehicles got stuck on both sides because of the disruption, creating immense suffering to the passengers.
Ferry service has been hampering due to dense fog for the last couple of days in this particular water route of Padma River.
