The government has envisaged reducing poverty by at least 10% in the next four years of its tenure, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.
The premier came up with the vision while addressing the programme on 'Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Purashkar-1419' on Saturday.
Sheikh Hasina has laid importance on making the farmers aware of the adverse impacts of excess use of fertilizer and pesticides.
She also called for promoting natural and integrated pest management in all areas of agriculture.
The PM also urged for encouraging use of organic fertilizer saying the issue should be considered seriously in the interest of protecting the fertility of soil, fisheries and sources of the sweet water.
Distributing the 'Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Purashkar-1419' here, Sheikh Hasina urged the educated youths not to neglect the agriculture as a profession.
"It's a matter of pride that an educated youth would find self-employment in his paternal farm job applying all modern technologies and related information," she said.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her firm determination to free Bangladesh from poverty and hunger by 2021.
A total of 30 persons and organisations were given the 'Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Purashkar-1419' in different categories for their contribution to the respective fields.
Of them, five were given gold, eight silver and 17 bronze medals.
