Ferry services on the Simulia-Kawrakandi route of the Padma river has resumed after eleven hours.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Simulia Ghat Assistant Manager Shekhar Chandra Roy said ferry services on the route halted around 11pm on Monday for poor visibility because of dense fog.
He said normalcy returned there around 09:45am on Tuesday.
Twelve ferries -- Birshestra Ruhul Amin, Shah Ali, Kalmi Lata, Karabi, Kakali, Ketki, Roypura, Thobal, Raniganj, Ranikhet, Lenting and Taplu -- had been forced to anchor on the middle point of the river due to fog.
About 1,000 passengers had to pass the night in the middle of the river. About 300 vehicles got stuck on both sides, creating immense suffering to the commuters.
