Miscreants have set fire to a bus of Islamic University at Garaganj bazar under Shailokupa upazila of the district.
Officer-in-Charge Sagir Mia of Shailokupa police station said the deprived activists of the university's Chhatra League's newly formed committee set the bus ablaze.
University's transport branch officer Mirazul Islam said a bus of the varsity was going to Jhenaidah from its campus to pick up teachers on Thursday afternoon.
"When the bus reached at Garaganj bazar, some miscreants poured petrol on it and set fire. Locals rushed in and put out the fire instantly," he added.
Wishing anonymity, a shopkeeper of Garaganj bazar said some IU students who have been deprived in newly declared Chhatra League committee torched the bus around 01:30pm.
