Charge framing against Latif Siddique on Dec 7

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed December 7 for framing charges against sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique in a case filed over his remarks on Hajj and Tabligh Jamaat.

Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Ashaduzzaman Nur set the date and directed the prison authorities to produce the former telecommunications minister before it on that day.

The court also granted complainant ANM Abed Raja’s petition for not hearing any petition of the defence in his absence.

On November 25, Latif was sent to jail by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqur Rahman when police produced him before the court following his surrender at Dhanmondi police station.

Later, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha transferred the case to the court of Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur for trial.

Latif has been shown arrested in three of the seven cases filed in Dhaka.

Pro-BNP lawyer Abed Raja, former president of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association, filed the case on October 2.

On October 28, the court issued a warrant for Latif’s arrest as he did not appear in the court.

Latif returned home on November 23. He is facing over a dozen other cases filed with different police stations.
