Ferry services on Kawrakandi route resume

Ferry services disrupted owing to dense fog on the Simulia-Kawrakandi route of the Padma rive has resumed after a gap of around six hours yesterday.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Simulia Ghat Deputy General Manager (commerce) Chandra Shekhar confirmed it, saying the disruption happened around 2:30am and the normalcy returned there at about 8:30pm.

Due to the dense fog, four ferries left from both ghats had been forced to anchor on the middle point of the river and there were about 500 hundred vehicles got stuck on both sides because of the disruption, creating immense suffering to the commuters.

On the other hand, at least eight people including woman were injured as two speed boats mistakenly collided head on amid dense fog on the Mawa-Kawrakandi route under Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.

Of them, two people were admitted to Shibchar Pachor Royal Hospital.

Confirming the incident, Shibchar police station OC Abdus Sattar said although most of the passengers managed to swim ashore after the accident, they kept continued a search drive on the river.
