1 dies, 26 go missing as trawler capsizes in Bay

A person has died and at least 26 people have gone missing as a fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Lavlu.

Mohammad Nasir Uddin, an official of Bengal Fisheries Ltd said a fishing boat named ‘FB Bandhan’ of Bengal Fisheries with some 29 crew members capsized in the Bay as another trawler hit it around 5am.

On information, Navy patrol ship ‘Samudra Joy’ rushed in and rescued two people and recovered the body of another while the others went missing, UNB reported.

The two rescued persons are Sajib Hossain, a junior officer of the trawler, and Nasir, a crew member.

Navy and Coast Guard members were conducting a rescue operation to trace out the missing people.
