RMG worker dies in cardiac arrest

A worker has died in a cardiac arrest at a garment factory in Kathaltoli area in Ashulia, triggering a protest in the factory.

The deceased is Alam, 32, son of Abu Kashem of Bogra. He worked as quality controller at The Rose Dress Ltd.

Workers said he sudden felt severe pain in his chest while working at the factory around 10am on Tuesday.

They said he was declared death when taken to a nearby hospital.

Later, the angry workers staged their protest accusing the authority of negligence in treatment.

Industrial Police Deputy Director Shahid Ullah said: “The authorities of the garment factory declared it closed following the protest.”

“The situation is under control. However, we have deployed additional police in front of the factory to avoid untoward situation,” he said.
