The parents of Felani Khatun said they were frustrated at the adjournment of the re-trial of their daughter’s death.
The re-trial has been adjourned for four months as the accused BSF official, Amiya Ghosh, suddenly fell ill in court during Thursday‘s session.
Amiya‘s sickness was reported by the BBC and several other media outlets.
The trial, according to sources, will begin on March 25 next year but Felani‘s parents say the delay is a cause for concern and disappointment.
“I see no hope. Amiya‘s treatment might have been arranged after the pornouncement of the verdict,“ said Felani‘s father Nur Islam.
Kurigram‘s Public Prosecutor Advocate Abraham Lincoln also expressed frustration at the adjournment but said he was hopeful that justice would be dispensed.
A special court set up by the BSF in Cooch Behar of West Bengal acquitted Amiya of the charges on September 6 last year.
But the BSF initiated a re-trial on September 22 in compliance with a decision made during a biltaeral meeting attended by BGB and BSF officials.
Felani‘s father again testified in the court against Amiya on November 17 and pleaded for the BSF official‘s highest punishment.
On January 7, 2011, Felani died in a BSF shooting while climbing over the brabed wire fence at Anantapur border in Phulbari upazila.
Her death generated widespread outrage, prompting a trial which began at the special court on August 13 last year.
