Prof Zillur Rahman remembered at JU

A mourning programme in memory of former JU Vice Chancellor and caretaker government’s former adviser late Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui has been held at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium of Jahangirnagar University.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam presided over the programme while Professor Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmad and Professor Amirul Islam Chowdhury, former JU VCs, spoke at the event.

Dr Saleh Uddin said: “Prof Zillur served throughout his life for expansion of education.”

Amirul Islam Chowdhury said late Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui played a significant role in academic development of the university.

Former JU VC and caretaker government’s ex-advisor Prof Zillur Rahman was born on February 23, 1928 in Jhinaidah. He acted as an advisor of 90-91’s Bangladesh Caretaker Government.

He was the fourth consecutive VC of Jahangirnagar University who took the charge of the university on May 1, 1976 and ended his tenure on April 30, 1984.

Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui was considered as the most successful VC in the history of JU who served the university for eight years, said the speakers at the session.
