40 shops gutted in Kishoreganj

Some 40 shops have been gutted in a devastating fire at Mithamoin upazila in Kishoreganj.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cloth shop named Pratima Bastraloy belonging to Sumanta Das at Joinaddin market of the upazila around 1pm on Sunday, Nasir Uddin Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mithamoin police station told the Dhaka Tribune.

The fire soon engulfed nearby 39 different shops at Amir Uddin and Tajul Islam markets, he added.

Ahmad Ali Chowdhury, president of Mithamoin Banik Samity said locals doused the fire after a two-hour frantic effort.

He, however, mentioned that there is no any fire brigade office nearby the fire incident area.

The loss in the fire was estimated at Tk2 crore, Ali said quoting the owners of the shops.
