Gawher Rizvi: Bureaucrats to play major role

Bureaucrats have to play the major role to achieve the target of lifting the country into middle income or developed status, Dr Gawher Rizvi, advisor to the prime minister, said yesterday.

“If we want to achieve the growth target, we have noway to avoid the performance management of the civil servants,” he added while addressing the inaugural session of a workshop titled “Designing and Implementing Government Performance Management Systems” held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Speaking as the chief guest, he said bureaucrats usually play the major role in implementing the  government’s decision and desire.

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan expressed his hope to introduce an effective performance management system in the country’s government offices to make the government’s move towards development faster.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Cabinet Division, World Bank and Brac Institute of Governance and Development. The event was attended by more than a hundred participants including the senior secretaries and the secretaries of different ministries and divisions, representatives from World Bank and BracU were also present at the discussion.
