Transport workers go on 24-hour strike starting at 6am today and ending at 6am tomorrow in Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar, to press home their six-point demand.
The strike would be enforced as per a decision taken during their convention on October 25, said Mrinal Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (East).
The demands include harassment of the workers by police and BRTA, provision of appointment letters to each worker and to control unfit vehicles, of which number is gradually increasing.
“As the demands were not fulfilled within our previously-set deadline, we are enforcing this strike as per our previous decision,” said Mrinal.
He added that they would go for tougher movement if their demands were not met immediately.
