A 1200-tonne salt laden lighter age vessel has sunk near Parki Beach area at Karnaphuli river’s estuary on Friday morning.
No casualty was reported in this incident.
Mahbub Rashid, director of water transport executive cell, said the vessel, MV Nafiz, was headed for Dhaka from the port city while a hole was created in its deck after jolting with a shoal around 11:00am.
The master of the vessel tried to take the vessel near the shore but it sank due to tidal water, he added
All the 13 crews of the vessel managed to come into shore safely, the official said.
