Three-day international power expo kicks off

A three-day long 13th Power Bangladesh International Expo began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka yesterday.

Prime Minister's Energy Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury inaugurated the event which aims to encourage use of alternative power sources including renewable energy.

Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS), Bangladesh has organised the expo in association with CEMS USA.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said the event will help bring world technology in power sector to the country.

While speaking as chief guest, he also said such exhibition will improve understanding and relation between public and private sectors in the field of power and energy.

CEMS, Bangladesh managing director Meherun N Islam presided over the inaugural function.

FBCCI president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed and American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh president Aftab ul Islam, among others, also addressed the function.

Some other exhibitions are also being held concurrently at the venue, which include 8th Solar Bangladesh International Expo, 17th Con-Expo 2014 and 11th RE Power Bangladesh International Expo.

The participants from over 11 countries are displaying their products in the event.

Both local and foreign visitors are going to the expo to get familiar with Bangladesh's power and energy sector and also to see investment climate in the country.

Bangladeshi government is encouraging foreign investments in the sector.

The expo will remain open for the visitors from 10.30am to 7.30pm every day. Registration is required to get an access. The expo will conlude on Saturday.

CEMS-Global’s power series of exhibitions are the only international exhibitions focusing on the sector in South and South-East Asian region. These are held annually in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
