A Judge of the Appellate Division of Supreme Court expressed his serious concern over the rise of militancy in Bangladesh and the involvement of country's educated young generation with them.
“Brilliant young people are being brain-washed by militant lunatics who misinterpreting Islam are trying to recruit them in Bangladesh and other countries,” said the judge.
He urged all concerned “to deal with this type of situation dispassionately and without any leniency”.
The concern came from Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury, a member of a four-member bench of the Appellate Division during an appeal hearing challenging a High Court bail to Asif Adnan, son of former HC judge Abdus Salam Mamun.
Asif Adnan was allegedly recruited as an ISIS fighter by a UK citizen of Bangladeshi origin.
After the hearing the bench headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain stayed the HC order that granted bail on November 10 to Asif till Sunday.
The apex court also fixed Sunday for passing further order on the appeal.
Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury said: “My heart bleeds when I see a son of one of my former colleagues is produced before us as the accused in this case. we cannot ignore the question of the security of the state.
Security of the state is the highest law which must be protected and insulated at any cost and every cost.”
When the security of the state is threatened it does not matter whose son or grandson is accused. “We must deal with this type of situation dispassionately and without any leniency.
VVIP and VIPs are on target
Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury said: “Whenever we open the newspaper in the morning, the main news that attracts our attention is on the conspiracy involving not only people within Bangladesh but also foreigners.”
On Bangladesh, this people (militant) are bent to destroy our country and assassinate our leaders including the prime minister, other VVIPs and VIPs. The latest news on Bardhaman conspiracy and Jawahiris massage are alarming, he said.
Young people are being brain-washed
Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury said there was a time when brilliant youths used to follow the ideas of Marx, Lenin, Castro, Ho chi Min and Che Guevara but now the same brilliant young people are being brain-washed by militant lunatics who misinterpreting Islam are trying to recruit brilliant young people in Bangladesh and other countries instigating them to take arms against the state.
It is high time that these elements should be uprooted. Their Ideological mentors are misleading them about Islamic philosophy but unfortunately this young people are falling prey to their traps.
Jawahiri is a lunatic
Terming Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri Justice Shamsuddin termed him lunatic, debased, depraved and debauched who is targeting brilliant people all over the world including Bangladesh. He has sparked a reign of terror in the mind of many statesman all over the world.
“We have seen that many Bangladeshis who went to Afghanistan, on their return had resorted to militancy in Bangladesh,” he observed.
Young educated person are on trap
Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury also noted that most of the young boys have brilliant academic record. They have been educated from brilliant English medium schools and institutions.
“Such institutes as North South University which seems to be a major breeding ground for militants. They are well dressed and clean-shaved, it is impossible to identify them as militant by their look. They speak in English and very smart in their postures.
“Unfortunately their parents do not know what they are doing out of their homes. I feel pity for those parents,” he said.
“If we do not act resolutely and with iron fist now, it may be too late tomorrow. We cannot look at this matter with compassion and mercy irrespective of the identities of such accused,” the justice concluded.
