At least 15 people have received burns when a fire broke out at a market in Chittagong city’s Hazari Lane area on Wednesday night.
Nayek Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost said a total 15 people were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH)’s Burn unit.
Of the injured, three are identified as Tulshi Sen, 70, Sawpan Dhar, 32, and Rajib, 35.
Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters in Agrabad, said: “The fire originated from the leakage of a gas cylinder the gold ornament factory of one Tulshi Sen at the second floor of the five-storied Mohammadia Press Market around 10:15pm. The fire soon engulfed the entire floor.”
“Being informed, three units of firefighters from Nandan Kanun, Chandanpura and Agrabad Fire Station rushed in and put out the flame after one-and-half-our hectic efforts.”
The extent of the damage has been estimated at Tk200,000 by the firefighters.
