BPC senses crisis in jet fuel supply

The state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) sent a letter to the Energy Ministry yesterday cautioning that a severe crisis may be looming in the supply of jet fuel due to the ongoing strike by the country’s river transport workers.

Official sources said the Muhammad Nurul Alam, BPC’s director (finance) and acting chairman, sent the urgent letter saying the ongoing strike by the river transport workers was making it impossible to supply fuel to different oil depots through river routes.

“For this the BPC has to incur a loss of $17,000-18,000 a day for demurrage charge,” said the letter.

The letter urged the Energy Division to take immediate steps to resolve the situation.
