Removal of BGB camp from Sajek demanded

Ethnic minority people under the banner of the Nari Somaj Uddoyog staged demonstration in Khagrachhari district town yesterday demanding withdrawal of two BGB personnel who allegedly tried to rape a woman of the community.

They also demanded removal of a BGB camp located at Shialdai under Sajek upazila, Rangmati.

Hundreds of people gather in Urobazar area around 10am from where they brought a procession that paraded different thoroughfares of the town.

Later, a rally was held in Urobazar area. Nipura Chakma, president of Nari Uddoyog, presided over the programme addressed by Micheal Chakma, president of Gonotantrik Jubo Forum, Otulal Chakma, Sajek union parishad chairman, and Ripon Chakma, Jubo Forum leader.

Speakers at the rally alleged that the government had set up BGB camps in different hilly districts in order to ensure security, but these camps had become nuisance for general people.

The BGB has set up a camp at Karbaripara under Sajek upazila aimed at ensuring security for locals six months back. But BGB personnel of the camp often harasses locals, they said.

Two BGB members tried to rape a housewife when she went to fetch water from a well on November , they said, adding that the incident created tension among Tribura community people.

They also demanded removal of BGB camps from Dighinala and Bandarban immediately.
