‘Stop transmission of Al Jazeera in Bangladesh’

Cultural activists demanded that steps be taken to stop transmission of the Doha-based international news channel Al Jazeera in Bangladesh as it is presents distorted information on the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) and the Liberation War.

They made the demand at a rally on the Chittagong Press Club premises yesterday morning protesting the news report aired on Al Jazeera television about the ICT and the Liberation War, 1971.

Speakers at the rally said the television channel had misguided the whole world presenting distorted information about the great achievement of Bangladesh and the ongoing trial on crimes against humanity in 1971.

Chittagong Gonojagoron Moncho Coordinator Sarif Chouhan said the country had its own constitution, state policy and judicial system and the countrymen would not accept the foreign interference in its internal issues.

Journalist and Poet Abul Momen said Pakistani collaborators had tried to foil the Liberation War by presenting fake, fabricated and false news about our freedom fighters and Liberation War and now Al Jazeera was playing the same role by presenting partial news aboutthe ICT.

He also urged the people to boycott the television if the government would not stop the transmission of the television channel soon.

Udichi Chittagong Regional unit’s Vice President Sunil Dhar, Peshajibi Somonnoy Parishad Chittagong chapter’s President Dr AQM Sirajul Islam, and journalist and poet Kamrul Hasan Badal participated in the human chain.
