A Dhaka court has placed two accused of the journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case on two-day fresh remand each.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Moinul Islam Bhuiyan passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier, a Dhaka court set November 11 to hear a plea to take two security guards – Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudro Paul – into seven-day remand. RAB filed the petition on October 21.
Police have so far arrested eight accused persons, including the two guards of the victims’ residence.
Following the murders, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police started investigating the case and later it was shifted to the DB police.
However, the High Court in an order asked the elite force RAB to deal with the case as the DB had expressed its inability to resolve the case.
Sagar and his wife Runi were killed at their West Rajabazar’s rented flat on February 11, 2012.
Sagar was the news editor of the private TV station Maasranga while Runi worked as a senior reporter for ATN Bangla channel.
On October of 2012, the then home minister announced a bounty of Tk10 lakh for helping law enforcers nab Humayun Kabir, who was on the run.
Humayun was arrested on February 9 last year, however there has been no progress in the case since then.
