Dhaka University authorities have suspended four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League for their involvement in the brutal attack on a photographer and his two nieces at Dhaka University campus.
The suspended BCL members are Faruk of botany department, Masum of physics department, Jinat of statistics department and Jahir of mathematics department – are all first-year students and residents of Shaidullah Hall.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique signed in the suspension letter of the four identified attackers on Monday.
DU acting proctor Amzad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune: “The university authorities have identified the BCL members with the help of the Shahidullah Hall administration and the hall unit Chhatra League on Friday.”
“The VC signed their suspension letter today as he was out the university for two days,” he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the alleged Chhatra League activists attacked and mercilessly beat up the son and granddaughters of Ekushey Padak winner photojournalist Manjur Alam Beg at Dhaka University campus.
In the attack, Manjur Alam Beg's son Imtiaz Alam Beg and his two nieces Saba Ahmed and Rubaiya Ahmed sustained injuries. Imtiaz is a renowned photographer and the principal of Begart Institute of Photography and his niece Saba Ahmed was a former student of IBA, DU.
Later, the victims filed a case with Shahbagh police station in this connection, accusing four unnamed persons.
