3 Barapukuruia coal mine officials withdrawn

Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited  (BCMCL) has withdrawn its three officials on charges of showing negligence in selling 300 tonnes of coal to a private company.

BCMCL Managing Director Md Aminuzzaman confirmed this to the Dhaka Tribune and said they were now attached to his office.

The three officials are General Manager Md Abdul  Mannan Patwary, Deputy General Manager Gopal Chandra Saha and Deputy Manager Md Kamrul Hasan. They all work at the company’s finance and accounts division.

A BCMCL general manager said a bank draft of Tk27.6lakh in favour of Masum Ali, proprietor of Robin Traders at Zirani Bazar of Savar, was submitted to the accounts division of the company to purchase 300 tonnes coal in May this year.

When the company officials submitted the bank draft to Phulbari branch of Agrani Bank for encashment, it was found to be fake, he said.

The three-member committee that had been formed to investigate into the matter has recently submitted their report to the managing director, who placed the report at the company’s board meeting on November 2, when it was decided to withdraw the three officials.

A new three-member investigation committee was formed headed by General Manager A K M Serajul Islam for more investigation in this regard.

General Manager AKM Serajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday:

“We have investigated this and will submit our report within 10 working days.”

Meanwhile, the Energy Ministry has formed a three-member with its Deputy Secretary Siddiqa Akhtar in the lead to investigate the issue.
