State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid said Saturday's power outage across the country has occurred due to the glitch in internal power system on Bangladesh side. He made the statement while addressing media at the conference room of the secretariat on Thursday after receiving the progress report on power outage. He said: “Although the actual reason behind the blackout is yet to be identified, primarily it is being estimated that the blackout was caused due to transmission problems and internal glitch in power system on our end.” “We have gotten the primary progress report. But, we are yet to get reports from many power plants all over the county. So, the prove body got 10 more working days to submit the final report.” Seeking anonymity, a member of the committee on Wednesday told the Dhaka Tribune that there was some confusion about how and to what extent they were going to reveal their findings. Earlier on Sunday, two investigation committees have been formed over the power failure across the country. Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources formed a seven-member probe committee headed by additional secretary Ahmed Kaikaus. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh formed another three-member committee headed by its executive director Tapan Kumar Roy. On November 1, two collapses in the national electricity grid caused hours of power outage in the country. The first collapse occurred around 11:28am and the authorities took until the next morning to fully restore power supply across the country. From November 3-5, the committee visited, collected data and talked to the officials of the National Load Desptach Centre (NLDC) in the capital’s Aftabnagar, the Bheramara High Voltage DC Sub-station (HVDC) in Kushtia and several key power stations in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj and Narayanganj’s Haripur.
