Gonojagoron Moncho happy with Quasem verdict

The activists of the various factions of the Gonojagoron Moncho and other pro-Liberation War organisations have expressed satisfaction over the death penalty handed down to war criminal Mir Quasem Ali.

After the verdict, Moncho activists also brought out victory rallies at and around the Shahbagh intersection in the capital.

In his immediate reaction to the verdict, Imran H Sarkar, spokesperson of one of the factions of the Moncho,

said: “We welcome the verdict. We thank the government and the tribunal for it. If the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upholds the verdict, we will be happy.”

He also said: “Now we want to see quick execution of the verdict because it will establish rule of law in the country.”

Another faction of the Moncho, led by Kamal Pasha Chowdhury, also expressed satisfaction and brought out a rally at Shahbagh. Ruling Awami League’s student front Chhatra League brought out a procession on the Dhaka University campus.

Since morning, the activists of the various factions of the Moncho took position at Shahbagh, waiting in anticipation for the verdict against Quasem, who is known as a key financier of Jamaat-e-Islami. The Chhatra league (JSD) also demanded capital punishment for the war criminal from a separate gathering.
