NBR chair fails to obtain extension

The government has decided not to extend the tenure of National Board of Revenue Chairman Ghulam Hussain as his contract expires on January 9, 2015, official sources said.

According to sources in the finance division, the NBR chairman had been lobbying for his contract extension, but to no avail.

Recently, Ghulam transferred 27 tax commissioners to different tax offices across the country.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said the outgoing chairman should not have issued the transfer order for the tax commissioners including the director general of central intelligence unit.

“The NBR chairman called on me at my office and admitted  his  wrongdoing about the transfer of commissioners,” he said.

The transfer order of those 27 tax commissioners was later suspended, added the finance minister.

Earlier, the finance minister sent a letter to the minister of Public Administration Ministry to stop transfer of the taxmen.
