Blast at Moncho procession in Chittagong

A crude bomb has been exploded in front of Gonojagoron Moncho's procession in Chittagong city following the death penalty of Jamaat leader Mir Kashem.

Two persons were injured in the explosion. They are rickshaw puller Md Rafiq, 45, and Munna, photojournalist of Daily Azadi.

Of them, Rafiq was sent to Chittagong General Hospital while Munna received minor injuries in the blast.

Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge AKM Mohiuddin Selim told the Dhaka Tribune that a crude bomb was blasted when the Moncho procession was crossing Cinema Palace area around 1:45pm.

He said police were looking into the matter and trying to detain the persons who set off the bomb during the procession.

Gonojagoron Moncho coordinator Sharif Chouhan claimed that the crude bomb was exploded targetting their procession to foil the spirit of the liberation war.

Earlier in the day, the International Crimes Tribunal 2 awarded death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali for his alleged crimes against humanity and other offences committed in Chittagong during the 1971 Liberation War.
