Mir Kashem to die for war crimes
The International Crimes Tribunal 2 has awarded death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali, known as a key financier of the anti-liberation party, for his alleged crimes against humanity and other offences committed in Chittagong during the 1971 Liberation War.
Tribunal 2 led by Justice Obaidul Hasan pronounced the verdict around 11:30am on Sunday.
State minister: No power supply deficiency now
State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid said the country was no longer reeling with the unusual deficiency in power supply.
The minister made the statement while briefing the media regarding Saturday's power supply disruption on Sunday morning.
Prosecution dedicates verdict to '71 martyrs
The prosecution lawyers have dedicated the tribunal verdict that awarded death penalty to Jamaat top leader Mir Kashem Ali to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
They also expressed their satisfaction over the verdict while giving their reactions before the media on Sunday afternoon, immediately after it was handed down.
Moncho welcomes Kashem verdict
Gonojagoron Moncho, the pro-liberation platform, has welcomed the verdict of International War Crimes tribunal that handed down death penalty to top Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali.
Spokesperson of a Moncho faction Imran H Sarkar expressed his satisfaction at a rally in the capital’s Shahbagh on Sunday afternoon, immediately after the verdict was pronounced.
Defence: We will appeal against farcical verdict
Terming the verdict as a farcical one, the defence lawyers said they would file an appeal petition challenging the tribunal verdict against Jamaat leader Mir Kashem Ali.
Kashem’s lawyer Mizanul Islam said this on Sunday afternoon, while expressing reaction over the verdict that handed down death penalty to the war criminal.
Jamaat's hartal underway peacefully
The second phase of 48-hour nationwide hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting its ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami’s death sentence for his crimes during the Liberation War, is underway peacefully on Sunday.
The shutdown began at 6am and it will end at 6am on Tuesday.
2 bodies recovered in Ashulia
The police have recovered two bodies from Palli Bidyut area in Ashulia.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
