Third-class employees demand new pay scale

Third-class government employees demanded announcement of a new pay scale with a minimum salary of Tk15,000 from July 2014.

Leaders of the association for the third-class government employees yesterday submitted a six-point demand to the prime minister’s office.

A team led by association President Mahfuzur Rahman and Secretary General Lutfar Rahman submitted a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the association.

The other demands include 75% of basic salary as house rent, increasing medical allowances to Tk2,500 and conveyance and tiffin allowance to minimum Tk1,000.

They also demanded the retirement age of the government employees be raised to 60 years with 100% pension.

Earlier on the day, around 500 employees led by the association staged a demonstration at the capital’s Institute of Engineers. Association’s Joint Secretary Selim Mollah told the Dhaka Tribune that police officials obstructed their demonstration in Shahbagh area.
