A League football match has been abandoned following a four-hour visit of Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain as his helicopter landed at Khulna stadium.
The match between Abahani KC and Maheswarpasa club was scheduled to start at 5pm on Tuesday.
But the helicopter, carrying Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, landed at the stadium at 12 noon. Later, the minister left the district at 4pm after holding a view exchange meeting at Khulna Circuit House.
The helicopter was stationed at the middle of the stadium for more than four hours, obstructing the organisers to prepare the ground for the match of the Sheikh Kamal Nitol Tata Khulna Premier Division Football League.
According to the spectators, the players from both the teams, the referees, the management committee members and a number of spectators went to the venue on due time.
But, they left the stadium as they found the ground unprepared for the match, said the organisers.
Khulna Abahani KC's Manager Motabbir Morshed Chanchal said: “Both the teams have faced economic loss due to the postponement of the match. The teams had to bear all the expenses including their hotel fees.”
“Such losses are incurred due to the irresponsibility of the administration,” he added.
The spectators, who came to watch the game, also expressed their disappointment and anger over the issue.
A frustrated spectator, Mohammad Sujan, questioned: “Why the minister's helicopter landed in the stadium while there is a helipad in the Circuit House premise.”
