In a bid to attract tourists, the Chittagong Beach Management Committee has decided to upgrade the Patenga and Parki sea beaches of the port city with modern facilities.
The decision came at the committee’s meeting chaired by Chittagong District Commissioner Mezbah Uddin yesterday.
The new facilities would include Information centres and health centres for the tourists.
The committee also decided to evict illegal and floating structures from the areas to restore the natural beauty.
An executive magistrate will be appointed to ensure security of the tourists and control drug smuggling and unsocial activities on the spots.
Chittagong Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Abul Hossen, Anwara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Farid Uddin and representatives of police, Bangladesh Coast Guard were present at the meeting.
