State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed yesterday came down heavily on officials and staff of land acquisition department while visiting the office in Chittagong following the recovery of around Tk58 lakh meant for bribing LA officials.
He warned that corruption would not be tolerated in his department.
The authorities concerned have already installed six CCTV cameras in a bid to prevent anomalies in the office.
Police filed a case under the Money Laundering Act while the district administration transferred 12 employees of the LA department following the recovery of Tk57.92 lakh from a person named Md Elias Bhuiyan, 32, on the Chittagong Court Building premises on October 14.
During interrogation, the arrestee confessed that the money was supposed to be handed over to a staff of the LA department as bribe, police sources said.
“We will launch a drive to oust the brokers from the office area very soon,” he said adding that necessary measures would be taken to ease hassles of the people.
Javed also asked the officials to distribute compensation cheques amongst the victims on the spot while acquiring land to stop corruption.
Divisional Commissioner Mohammed Abdullah and Deputy Commissioner Mezbah Uddin Ahmed were present during the visit.
