The government has finally selected 199 graduate youths to develop them as future IT leaders.
The youths were picked from the 3028 candidates for the second batch through competitive online examinations, officials sources said, reports BSS.
Of the 199 youths, 100 were selected for IT Enabled Services (ITES) and 93 for IT Services (ITS) aiming to provide them with three-month extensive quality training under Fast Track Future Leader (FTFL) Training Programme.
The training of the 199 youths would be part of the 4,000 youths to be developed as future IT leaders under FTFL Training Programme of Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project under ICT Division, said the LICT project director Md Rezaul Karim.
He said experts and academics have been engaged to provide training that would begin at Comilla BARD from October 28.
The World Bank financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project will create a total of 34,000 skilled-manpower by providing them with three categories of training to meet the growing demand in the ICT sector, he said.
Among the three categories 4,000 youths are to be developed as future IT leaders under FTFL Training Programme, 10,000 youths under Top-Up IT Training and 20,000 under ITES foundation training, said Karim.
The government has ensured quality training involving the experts in the IT sector to fill the skill gap of the fast growing IT and IT Enabled Service sector, said Director of National Data Center and LICT deputy project director Tarique M Barkatullah.
He said lack of skilled-manpower has been identified as one of the major problems that keeps the ICT sector from flourishing while the LICT project has been working to create at least 34,000 skilled-manpower for the sector.
The interesting part is that the IT industries and organisations have already provided jobs to the youths trained in the first batch under the FTFL training programme, Tarique said.
"We have given emphasis on selecting more female participants in the second batch of FTFL training to meet the 30% women professionals target in our IT/ITES industry," said IT/ITES Team Leader of LICT project Fokhruz Zaman.
"We have also enhanced the four weeks residential immersion training focusing on soft skills, thinking skills, English language skills and basic coding and related technical skills," said Zaman.
