A Bangladeshi was shot to death by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Kiranganj frontier in Shibganj upazila, Chapainawabganj early yesterday.
BGB sources said BSF members from Churi Anantapur camp had opened fire on Soleman Ali, 25, son of Ajabul Haque of Jaminpur village, when he had gone to the bordering area around 5am. He died on the spot.
Later, his body was found near the pillar No 179 of the bordering area. The body was sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue.
A flag meeting was held between BGB and BSF along the border in the afternoon over the incident.
Our Panchagarh correspondent reported that a Bangladeshi was found dead inside Indian territory along Sardarpara frontier, Panchagarh yesterday.
Commanding Officer of 18 Panchagarh BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque said people of Bangram village in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India found the body of Ershad Ali, 30, son of Mohammad Ali of Pramanikpara village under Debiganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, about 50 meters inside of Indian side near Sardarpara border and informed BSF about the matter.
When the BSF confirmed the deceased was not Indian citizen, they informed BGB about the body.
In the afternoon, BGB officials sent letter to BSF asking it to return the body as they identified the victim with the help of local people.
Responding the letter BSF handed over the body to BGB through a company commander level flag meeting between two border guards held at the zero line on Sardarpara border at about 5pm.
Victim’s family members said he had been missing since Thursday afternoon. They also claimed that the BSF might have killed him with sharp weapon as they found several injury marks in this body.
