A teenage girl has committed suicide after her lover refused to marry her in Gazipur's Shreepur area.
The deceased, Kakoli akhter, 19, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday night, while undergoing treatment.
Kakoli's uncle Kamrul Islam said: “Shafiqul Islam of Betjuri village promised to marry Kakoli and lured her into a physical relationship. Later, Kakoli took poison on Thursday afternoon as he refused to marry her.”
Locals said Shafiqul went into hiding after Kakoli died.
While contacted, Shreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Mohosinul Kader said the police were informed about the incident.
No case has been filed in this connection till filing the report on Friday morning.
