Swiss company apologises for Hitler, Mussolini mugs

A Switzerland based international company for production and packaging of dairy products, ElSA-MIFORMA, a subsidiary of major Swiss retailer Migros apologized on Wednesday for what it said was a string of errors, which put coffee cream with the faces of Hitler and Mussolini in cafes in the Alpine country.

In a statement on its website, Migros apologised for the “inexcusable blunder”, saying, “Products with such motifs should never have been delivered”.

It went on to say that internal controls had failed as the packaging had been approved without proper consideration, reports swissinfo.ch.

“In the future we’ll be sure to sharpen our controls,” said Migros, which added that it was now doing everything it could to remove the fascist faces from the market.

Labels from mini cream pots have cult following in Switzerland, even going so far as to paste them into scrapbooks or display them in picture frames. Manufacturers feed the passion of collectors by releasing regular new editions.
