Police have tightened security at all land, sea and airports to evade any kind of subversive and destructive activities by extremist outfits or miscreants and to keep law and order in the country.
The security measures were taken up since the Special Branch (SB), which provides immigration services, on October 9 issued a letter, signed by its Special Superintendent of Police (Land and Sea-port Immigration), instructing them about this.
Police high officials said that though they routinely get such type of instructions but this time instruction has been taken due to recent bomb blast at neighbouring country India’s State of West Bengal and intelligence reports over militant activities in country.
The letter instructed the increasing of security measures at every immigration check post and the vigilant checking of all immigration passengers and vehicles there to avoid any kind of sabotage and to keep law and order in the country.
The letter also gave directives for increasing intelligence and detective watch in the areas and for taking necessary security and preventive measures by collecting advance intelligence information.
The letter further instructed that extra security measures be taken up at all important establishments, risky establishments and Key Point Installations (KPI) of the country.
It also gave instructions to increase intelligence watch upon the activities of suspected persons including all banned militant outfits as well as increasing security for all important persons including VVIP, VIP and diplomats.
Seeking anonymity, an SB official said: “The measures have been taken as a precautionary step of national security,” said a SB high official, seeking anonymity.
The Special Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on October 18 received the letter.
“We are on alert an international airport, a sea port and 46 KPIs, which fall under the jurisdiction of CMP,” said CMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Banaz Kumar Majumder.
Bangladesh has 16 land ports, two sea ports, three international airports, six domestic airports and 394 KPIs.
