Clash prompts indefinite bus strike in Bhola

Bhola Bus Owners' Association has called an indefinite bus strike in the district following a clash between  auto-rickshaw and bus workers in Charfassion upazila in Bhola.

The owners' association declared the strike on Wednesday afternoon, immediately after the clash in which 15 people sustained injured.

The clash ensued after the auto-rickshaw workers engaged in an altercation with bus workers in Charfassion bus stand area over carrying passengers around 1:30pm.

Of the injured, nine were taken to Charfassion Upazila Health Complex. Eight buses were vandalised during the clash.

Bhola Assistant Police Super Mahfuzur Rahman said: “The situation is now under control. The police have been deployed to different points of the district.”

Bus Owners' Association Secretary Abul Kalam said: “Some workers led by Kutub Jahangir attacked Charfassion bus depot and vandalised some vehicles. The indefinite bus strike has been called in the district demanding Jahangir's arrest.”

However, Jahangir could not be reached when contacted for his comment over the issue.
