Bangabandhu's close associate Bazlur Rahman dies

Valiant freedom fighter, close associate of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President of Bangabandhu Sainik League Bazlur Rahman died early Monday in the capital at the age of 70.

Family sources told the BSS that Bazlur Rahman had fall sick all on a sudden at his Lalmatia residence and died on the way to Samarita Hospital at 2.15am.

He is survived by a son, a daughter, wife and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited his residence at Lalmatia in Mohammadpur at 9.30 this morning after hearing the death news of Bazlur Rahman, who was also a former liaison officer of the Prime Minister.

The PM also stayed at his residence for an hour to convey her sympathy to the bereaved family members.

His first namaj-e-janaza will be held at Lalmatia Shahi Mosque after Johr prayer and he will be buried at Shahid Buddhijibi graveyard at Mirpur with state honour after his second namaj-e-janaza at Bangabandhu Bhaban (Dhanmondi Road no-32) at 3pm.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed her deep shock at the death of Bazlur Rahman. The second namaj-e-janaza will be held at Bangabandhu Bhaban as per the desire of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for his dedication to Bangabandhu and the Awami League, said family source of the deceased.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said the Awami League family has lost a dedicated worker in the death of Bazlur Rahman, who was an ardent follower of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"The country and nation will ever remember the contribution of Bazlur Rahman who suffered jail while protesting the killing of Bangabandhu," she said.

A doa-mahfil will also be held commemorating of Bazlur Rahman at Lalmatia Girls School after Asr prayer on October 24 (Friday).
