Govt allots 3.13 lakh tonnes of rice for MPs, UZ chairmen

The government has allocated 313,543 tonnes of rice under the Food for Works (FFW) and Test Relief (TR) programmes of the disaster management and relief ministry.

The allocations were given as special grants against 277 Members of Parliament (MPs) and 487 upazila (UZ) chairmen across the country.

According to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry officials and allotment papers, 158,543 tonnes rice were given under FFW programmes to implement small projects on rural infrastructure development.

The rest – 155,000 tonnes rice – were allotted against the TR programme to implement such rural development projects.

According to the allotment paper, signed by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary Salma Jahan, the MPs of general seats each will get 300 tonnes of rice while the women MPs of reserved seats each will get 100 tonnes of rice to implement the development works under the FFW programmes.

Same quantity of rice will be given against the MPs to implement the TR works in their constituencies.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday asked the divisional commissioners to cooperate on implementing the FFW and TR projects across the country.

The minister, in a meeting with the divisional commissioners held at his ministry yesterday, said, “The projects must be taken and implemented ensuring the standard. The divisional commissioners have to monitor and evaluate the projects properly.

He also informed them that the government has given an allocation of 8,000 tonnes rice against municipalities, 2,000 tonnes rice against the divisional commissioners and 3,200 tonnes rice against the deputy commissioners. Those will also be spent on the rural development.
