Indefinite strike calls-off in Sylhet

The indefinite transport strike, which was called on Saturday night, has been suspended till November 5 by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Unity Council in Sylhet.

Additional Deputy Commissioner General AZM Nurul Haque confirmed the matter after a meeting held in District commissioner conference Hall around 4pm on Sunday.

Selim Ahmed Falik, president of the union, said: "The strike will be suspended till November 5 as per the decision made in the meeting.”

“We will continue our strike again if our demand are meet within the deadline,” he added.

Earlier, the union called the indefinite strike on Saturday demanding realisation of the association's five-point demand.

The demands are decreasing corruption at BRTA office; harassment of police; setting up grill at CNG run auto-rickshaws; rebuilding rundown Sylhet-Tamabil road and mitigating transport related cases at Sylhet instead of Sayestagang, Habiganj.
